Doug Owens to Champion Utah Outdoor Recreation and Tourism
Owens calls for promoting Utah’s outdoor recreation economy as third plank in new jobs plan.
SALT LAKE CITY – Fourth Congressional District candidate Doug Owens today announced the third plank of his plan to create good jobs and grow Utah’s economy. He previously called to eliminate unnecessary and burdensome regulations on businesses, lower America’s corporate tax rate, and close loopholes that permit offshore tax havens. As the third plank in his jobs plan, Owens pledges to promote Utah’s outdoor recreation and tourism industry.
A robust outdoor recreation and tourism industry is the key to keeping Utah’s economy strong. Recreation and tourism generate $12 billion annually in Utah consumer spending, support more than 125,000 good local jobs, and contribute $3.6 billion each year in wages and salaries, as well as $856 million in state and local tax revenue.
“I understand the benefits that outdoor recreation and tourism bring to the economy of the most beautiful state in the country,” said Owens. “Utah needs a true champion in Congress who will work to protect and promote our state’s outdoor recreation economy.”
Doug has officially been endorsed by the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) in the race for Utah’s 4th District. OIA is a national association that represents more than 1,300 companies, including suppliers, manufacturers and retailers in America’s $646 billion outdoor recreation industry. Doug is the first non-incumbent candidate for Congress to earn OIA’s endorsement.
Doug Owens is a Salt Lake City native, husband, and father of four. As a highly-respected business defense attorney, he has 25 years’ experience helping businesses succeed. Six generations of Doug’s family have called Utah home. From those ancestors, he inherited the values he’ll take to Washington: hard work, concern for his neighbors, an appreciation for Utah’s unique beauty, and a desire to get things done.
